Willett has been in Bardstown since 1936, when Thompson Willett built it. The plant fell silent in the 1980s and was revived by Even Kulsveen, who bottled mature sourced casks under the Family Estate name while the stills stood idle; Willett's own distillation did not restart until 2012. So a 25-year rye under this label is whiskey from someone else's warehouse, picked cask by cask by Willett — and that selection is precisely what the Family Estate single barrels are collected for.
