About This Whiskey
WhistlePig The Boss Hog III, called "The Independent", is the 2016 edition of the Vermont producer's top-tier rye. It is a 14-year-old, 100% rye whiskey finished in Scotch hogsheads and bottled at full strength, around 120 proof.
Thirty barrels went into 250-litre Scotch hogsheads fitted with new American oak heads.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Deep rye spice, pine, tobacco, caramel and vanilla.
- Palate: Thick and spicy, with mint, black pepper, cinnamon, tea leaf and a trace of smoke.
- Finish: Long and warm, fading to tobacco, oak and gentle smoke.
Serving & Food
Add water gradually, and serve it with smoked duck or venison.
Good to Know
What's the finish? Used Scotch casks.
How strong is it? Around 120 proof, varying by barrel.
