About This Bourbon
Special Reserve is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof) and has no age statement. It is a straight bourbon, which under US rules means it has been aged at least two years in new charred oak. This large bottle holds the same whiskey as the 750mL, in a size that makes sense for a home bar or for mixing drinks for a group.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Sweet, with caramel to the fore.
- Palate: Honey, butterscotch and a soft woodiness; smooth, delicate and calm.
- Finish: Smooth and sweet, with a light honeysuckle note.
Serving & Food
The large bottle is good for mixing. Make a batch of highballs with ginger ale and a lemon wedge, or Whiskey Sours for a party. Neat, it is best slightly cool. Serve with fried chicken wings, pulled-pork sliders or popcorn tossed in brown butter.

About the Distillery
The Weller name has appeared on more bottlings than the ones on shelves today. Buffalo Trace released a 19 Year Weller at 90 proof in its Antique Collection for 2000, 2001 and 2002, and Weller Centennial, a 10-year-old at 100 proof, was made until 2009.
In 2005 the uncut, unfiltered William Larue Weller joined the Antique Collection, and its age and proof change every year. Special Reserve is the entry to the range, and like every Weller it uses wheat as the second grain.
