W.L. Weller 12 Year is presented by Buffalo Trace as a standout in the wheated bourbon family, aged significantly longer than most to deliver a bourbon that is smooth, balanced and remarkably refined, with a rich deep bronze hue.
From the Producer
W.L. Weller carries the name of William Larue Weller, the Louisville whiskey merchant credited with putting wheat in the mash in place of rye. The brand ran through Stitzel-Weller and now sits with Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, made on the same wheated recipe as the Van Winkle bottlings. That shared recipe is the whole story of Weller 12: it is how most drinkers get close to that profile without the Van Winkle queue.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Lanolin, almond, creamed corn and toasty vanilla.
- Palate: Heavily wheated, layered and moderately sweet, carrying the softer texture that defines the Weller line.
- Finish: Long, oaky and intensely smooth.
Best For
Straight pours, classic bourbon service and buyers who want an established wheated Kentucky bottle with more age than the entry-point Weller expressions.
