Talisker has stood at Carbost on the shore of Loch Harport since 1830, when the MacAskill brothers built it, and for most of its life it was the only distillery on Skye. The house character is peat smoke carried on a salty, peppery edge rather than the heavy medicinal style of Islay. Diageo's Special Releases is an annual, once-only run, and the 8 Year is Talisker at its youngest and loudest: high strength, natural colour, bottled for one season and then finished.

- Palate: Lively and maritime, with sweet rum-cask fruit, chilli pepper, peat smoke and coastal salinity.
