Springbank's wood expressions are a long-running strand of the distillery's output, separate from the age-stated core range: single cask types including rum, port, madeira and sherry wood are bottled as standalone limited releases with the cask style named on the label. The whisky underneath is made the same way as everything else from J. & A. Mitchell & Co. in Campbeltown, licence holders since 1828, from barley floor-malted at the distillery and spirit distilled two and a half times, matured and bottled on site with no chill-filtration or added colour. This Rum Wood release is 15 years old, filled into rum barrels, distilled in December 2003 and bottled on 27 August 2019 at 51.0% ABV.
