Springbank has been licensed since 1828 in Campbeltown and remains one of the last family-owned distilleries in the town, run today by J&A Mitchell & Company. Private cask releases like this one are selected from the distillery's own warehouse for a specific outside club rather than bottled as part of Springbank's standard range, which is why long-matured examples like this 1996 cask are scarce.
