Springbank Private Bourbon Cask #261 Fredercia 1999 700mL

HKD 8,900.00 HKD 8,900.00
Category: Scotch

A private single cask of Springbank distilled in 1999 and bottled in 2009 at ten years old for a Danish group of whisky-loving golfers, Torsdagsherrerne of Fredericia Golf Club. It came from bourbon cask #261 and was bottled at full strength, 59.5% ABV.

About This Whisky

Cask #261 was filled in 1999 with Springbank spirit and matured in ex-bourbon oak for ten years in the distillery's Campbeltown warehouses. It was bottled in 2009 for Torsdagsherrerne, a group from Fredericia Golf Club in Denmark, at a natural 59.5%. At that age and strength, the bourbon cask gives vanilla and sweetness while the lively spirit, with its salt, oil and light smoke, stays at the centre.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Honey, malt and lemon zest, with vanilla, sea spray and a little light smoke.
  • Palate: Oily and powerful, with sweet barley, pepper, orchard fruit and a salty tang.
  • Finish: Warming, with brine, pepper and oak that hold on.

Serving & Food

At 59.5%, water is part of the ritual. Pour a small measure, add a splash, and try again. After a round of golf, serve it with smoked salmon on rye, Danish open sandwiches, or salted liquorice.

How to Enjoy

Golf clubs and whisky groups, and those who like young, high-strength Springbank from bourbon wood.

About the Distillery

Springbank has always worked with a wider range of wood than most distilleries. Alongside the standard ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, it fills rum, wine and Calvados casks, and it uses small sizes too, such as 68-litre rundlets and kilderkins. Small casks have a long local history: in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Campbeltown distillers sold whisky to the local gentry in rundlets and kilderkins. Private casks bought in the 1990s were usually standard hogsheads, barrels or butts, and ex-bourbon wood was a common choice.
