Springbank has been licensed since 1828 in Campbeltown and remains family-owned by J&A Mitchell & Company. It is the only Scottish distillery that malts, mashes, ferments, distils and bottles entirely on its own premises, using a traditional malting floor for 100% of its barley. The Local Barley series takes that self-sufficiency further by using barley grown near the distillery rather than industrially sourced grain, giving each release a terroir-driven identity that has made the series a cult favourite among Springbank collectors.
