Springbank 21 Year 2021 is a mature Campbeltown single malt bottled on 1 November 2021 at 46% ABV. It is aimed at buyers who want older Springbank character with the distillery's trademark coastal, waxy complexity rather than a cask-strength or novelty-cask release.
From the Producer
Springbank was founded in 1828 by Archibald Mitchell in Campbeltown, on the Kintyre peninsula, and has remained in the hands of his descendants' company, J&A Mitchell, ever since. It is the only distillery in Scotland that performs every stage of production on site -- floor-malting its own barley, mashing, fermenting in boatskin larch washbacks for up to 110 hours, distilling in three direct-fired copper stills, and bottling without chill filtration or added colour. Springbank whisky itself is distilled two-and-a-half times, a Campbeltown-specific process unique to the distillery. Campbeltown once had more than thirty working distilleries; today only three remain, and Springbank is the one most closely associated with the region's historic character. The 21 Year is Springbank's oldest regular age-statement release and is bottled at standard 46% ABV rather than cask strength, aimed at drinkers who want the distillery's mature character in a more approachable, dilutable form than the annual cask-strength releases.
