About This Whisky
Springbank drew the 2021 release of its 18 Year Old from an exact 50/50 split of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and bottled it at 46% ABV.
Each year's 18 gets its own cask recipe; recent years have ranged from all-bourbon to mostly sherry.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Old coins, orange juice and damp earth, then brine and a little char.
- Palate: Oily, with orange turning to lemon, a hint of tar and rising salt.
- Finish: Long, with peat and damp earth, citrus and rock salt.
Serving & Food
Pour it and wait; it opens in the glass. Salt-baked chicken or Iberico ham brings out its savoury side.

What casks? Half ex-bourbon, half ex-sherry.
Does it need air? Yes. It opens after the bottle has breathed.

Springbank took out its licence in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchell's illicit still, and Archibald's sons have kept it in the Mitchell family since 1837. It malts all its own barley on traditional floors.
