The first bottling in Springbank's sherry series, released in 2022. It is a 10-year-old that spent seven years in bourbon casks and three in fresh Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, bottled at 55% ABV.
About This Whisky
The sherry series was planned as five 10-year-olds, each finished in a different style of sherry wood, with the time in bourbon casks shrinking as the time in sherry grew. Pedro Ximénez came first. The spirit was distilled in July 2012, rested seven years in refill bourbon casks, then moved into fresh PX hogsheads for three years before bottling in October 2022. The outturn was 10,800 bottles, all non-chill filtered and naturally coloured. Palo Cortado, Amontillado, Fino and Manzanilla editions were due to follow.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Date syrup and raisins up front, then cola, caramel, orange and raspberry, with Springbank's malty funk showing through.
- Palate: Full-bodied and sweet, with Christmas pudding, dark fruit and almond, a little smoke and a firm, oily grip.
- Finish: Medium length, with nuts, coffee grounds, syrupy sweetness and a dry oak edge.
Serving & Food
A winter dram. Serve it at room temperature in a small wine glass; with some water the sugar steps back and the spirit comes forward. Blue cheese, sticky toffee pudding or char siu with its sweet glaze all sit well beside it.
How to Enjoy
Cold-weather evenings, and those who like a sweet, sherry-led malt that still tastes of Campbeltown.

About the Distillery
The Mitchells came to Campbeltown from the Lowlands in the 1660s, and some of them were already maltsters. Archibald Mitchell founded Springbank in 1828. In 1837 two of his sons, John and William, took it over, and when John later brought his own son into the business the firm became J&A Mitchell & Co. That company still owns the distillery. When long-serving chairman Hedley G. Wright, Archibald's great-great-grandson, died in 2023, ownership passed into three trust funds, and a family member joined the board to keep the link going.
