Campbeltown once held more than thirty working distilleries and was described in the nineteenth century as the whisky capital of Scotland. Three remain in operation today, two of them owned by J. & A. Mitchell & Co.: Springbank, licensed since 1828, and Glengyle, reopened in 2004 to make Kilkerran. Springbank malts its own barley on traditional floor maltings, distils two and a half times, and matures and bottles everything on site in Campbeltown. Alongside the core range the distillery releases limited cask-matured and cask-finished editions drawn from sherry, port, rum and wine wood. This one is a 10-year-old matured in Pedro Ximenez casks and carries the 2022 release reference, bottled at higher strength than the standard 10 Year.
