Château Pétrus's 1979 grand vin was drawn from the estate's 11.4-hectare vineyard on the Pomerol plateau, vinified and aged at the Moueix cellars in Libourne before bottling and release. The Moueix family has been central to Pétrus's modern reputation since the 1940s, with Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix running the property as both owner and principal négociant. About the Château
Pétrus is run today by Jean-François Moueix, who inherited the property from his father Jean-Pierre Moueix in 2003, with Christian Moueix remaining active as head of the family's négociant arm Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. The vineyard is planted almost entirely to Merlot, with a small block of Cabernet Franc retained for blending in some vintages. Olivier Berrouet has served as technical director since 2008, succeeding his father Jean-Claude Berrouet. Viticulture aims for low yields, late picking and full phenolic ripeness.
