About the Winery
The Oakville winery was founded through the collaboration of Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Opus One uses estate fruit and Bordeaux varieties, selecting and blending lots to balance Napa ripeness with aromatic detail and structural poise. The composition gives Petit Verdot a larger role than Merlot, with Cabernet Franc adding another aromatic layer. Vineyard selection during a hot harvest was important to retain balance. Fine tannins and a savoury mineral edge keep the ripe fruit from feeling heavy.
