Mouton 2022 750mL

Château Mouton Rothschild 2022 comes from the last estate promoted into the 1855 first growths - the only change ever made to the classification, won by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1973. Every vintage since 1945 has carried a label commissioned from a different artist, which is why a Mouton vertical reads as much like a gallery wall as a cellar list.

Mouton was the estate that refused to accept its 1855 ranking, and spent over a century arguing until the classification was changed for it in 1973. The artist-label tradition began in 1945 with the V for victory vintage, and the payment has always been in wine rather than cash. 2022 was one of the hottest and driest growing seasons on record in Bordeaux.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Cassis and black cherry over cedar and graphite, with a fresh mint lift.
• Palate: Cabernet Sauvignon-led, full and tightly wound, dense ripe tannin behind dark fruit concentration.
• Finish: Long and firm, with cedar and sweet spice holding on - built for the cellar rather than the table.
