Château Montrose sits in Saint-Estèphe, the easternmost of the great Médoc communes, on gravel and black-sand soils over clay and marl. The vineyard is traditionally planted to a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot and Cabernet Franc, giving the wine the deeply tannic, long-aging structure the estate is known for; well-kept older vintages such as this can take decades to reach full maturity.
