Léoville Poyferré 2020 is a powerful Saint-Julien from a celebrated vintage, combining classified-growth stature with the estate’s polished, plush style. It is well suited to buyers building Bordeaux cellars or looking for a recognisable premium claret for gifting and dining.
From the Producer
Château Léoville Poyferré was formed in 1840 when the historic Léoville estate was divided, with the Poyferré share passing to the Cuvelier family, who still own the property today. Classified a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux classification, the estate farms roughly 80 hectares of deep gravel terroir along the Gironde estuary in Saint-Julien, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The house style favours a rich, structured but polished expression of the appellation.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Blackcurrant, plum, cedar, violets and graphite.
- Palate: Full and layered, with ripe Cabernet-led fruit, fine tannins and a broad, polished texture.
- Finish: Long and persistent, with dark fruit, spice and classic Médoc drive.
Best For
Cellar building, steakhouse pairings, Bordeaux gifting and buyers focusing on top 2020 Left Bank wines.
