The Judge is Kongsgaard's flagship single-vineyard Chardonnay, grown on a shy-bearing hilltop east of the town of Napa that founder John Kongsgaard's grandfather originally intended for a stone quarry. Named for John's father, "The Judge," the wine comes from vines fighting for their equilibrium at barely one ton per acre, a style the winery's own vintage notes describe as revealing the vineyard's rocky minerality "before you perceive the fruit."
