Glenkinchie is the largest working distillery in the Scottish Lowlands, at Pencaitland in East Lothian, a short drive south-east of Edinburgh. It was founded in the 1830s on the site of an earlier farm distillery, belongs to Diageo, and was chosen in 1988 as the Lowland representative among the original six Classic Malts of Scotland. It runs unusually large stills and a very wide worm-tub condenser, and the result is a light, grassy, gently floral spirit that takes readily to a second cask. The Distillers Edition series, introduced in the 1990s across the Classic Malts, takes the standard house expression and gives it a period of double maturation in a fortified-wine cask. This bottling was distilled in 2008, finished in Amontillado-seasoned casks and released in 2020 at 43% ABV.
