This is the cask-strength version of Glenfiddich 15 Year Old, filled by hand at the distillery in Dufftown and sold to visitors on site. At around 59% ABV it is far more intense than the standard 15, with the same honeyed Speyside character turned up.
About This Whisky
The hand-filled 15 is drawn from the same system as the standard 15 Year Old: whiskies aged in ex-sherry, ex-bourbon and new oak casks are married in the Solera vat. The difference is strength. It is bottled at cask strength rather than reduced, so each batch comes out slightly different; this bottle is labelled 59%.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Heather honey, fudge and baked pear, with dark fruit and warm cinnamon.
- Palate: Thick and spicy at full strength, with sherry-soaked raisin, marzipan, ginger and toasted oak.
- Finish: Long and sweet, with dried fruit, clove and a gentle drying finish.
Serving & Food
Treat it as two whiskies: sip a little neat, then dilute to around 45% with still water to find the classic 15 profile. A single ice cube also works. It suits honey-glazed char siu, pork belly with apple or a ginger cake.

About the Distillery
William Grant built Glenfiddich by hand in Dufftown with his seven sons and two daughters, and the first spirit ran from its stills on Christmas Day 1887. The distillery still belongs to his descendants through William Grant & Sons and draws its water from the Robbie Dhu spring.
Glenfiddich was among the first to sell single malt widely as a brand in its own right and the first Scotch distillery to open a visitor centre. The 15 Year Old was developed by the malt master using a Solera vat, a large wooden tun that has been kept at least half full since 1998, so every new batch mixes with older whisky.
