Glenfarclas is a family-owned Speyside distillery founded in 1836 by Robert Hay on the estate of Ballindalloch, in the heart of the Speyside region between the rivers Spey and Avon. It has remained in independent family ownership ever since and is today run by the fifth and sixth generation of the Grant family. The distillery is known for its direct-fired stills, its long-running use of traditional on-site floor maltings, and above all for its consistent house style of sherry-matured, full-bodied Speyside single malt aged primarily in European oak ex-Oloroso sherry butts. The Family Casks series is an annual single-cask release programme that draws from the distillery’s deep, on-site warehouse stocks, presenting one cask per vintage year; Cask #1675 is one of the 1953-vintage entries in that series.
