This Player Exclusive 16 Year was distilled in August 2008, the summer before Curry’s final college season at Davidson, and laid down at 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley — a notably malt-heavy mash bill — before sixteen years of barrel aging and bottling at 100 proof. Vinous awarded the release 95 points, the highest score any Gentleman's Cut bottle has received, with only 1,000 bottles produced worldwide.
Distilled in August 2008
This whiskey went into barrel in August 2008, the summer before Stephen Curry's final college season, and came out sixteen years later. Nobody filling those barrels knew what the next sixteen years were going to look like. That is the whole idea of the bottle, and it is the reason it is called Father and Son.
Sixteen years is a long time for a bourbon. The mash bill is 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley — a notably high proportion of malt — and it is bottled at 100 proof, which is where a whiskey of this age wants to be.
Dried cherries and caramel come out of the glass first, with fine tobacco leaf and smooth tannins underneath, and a long, warm, earthy finish behind all of it.
Vinous awarded it 95 points — the highest score any Gentleman's Cut release has been given.
