Domaine Georges Roumier, run since 1982 by Christophe Roumier, is a small Chambolle-Musigny estate widely regarded as a benchmark for the village. The domaine dates from 1924, when Georges Roumier married into a landholding family, and the holdings were built up over the following decades to include the Premiers Crus Les Amoureuses and Les Cras alongside the Grands Crus. Farming is traditional and low-yielding, with a restrained hand in the cellar and a long elevage in barrel. Bonnes-Mares is a Grand Cru straddling the boundary between Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, and its mix of red and white marl soils gives a denser, firmer Pinot Noir than the perfumed village style Chambolle is known for. The 2005 vintage was a warm, dry year across the Cote de Nuits that produced ripe, deeply structured wines built for long cellaring.
