Buffalo Trace Distillery sits on the Kentucky River at Frankfort, on a site where distilling is recorded from 1775 and where the current plant was first built in 1812. Its ownership history runs through Edmund H. Taylor Jr., the George T. Stagg era, the Sazerac Company purchase in 1992, and a National Historic Landmark designation in 2013. The site produces the Sazerac bourbon portfolio, including Blanton's, the Van Winkle range, Eagle Rare, George T. Stagg and E.H. Taylor. Elmer Tandy Lee (1919-2013) joined the distillery as a maintenance engineer, rose to master distiller, and is widely credited with launching Blanton's in 1984, the first bourbon sold as a single-barrel expression. After his retirement the distillery named a single-barrel bourbon after him, drawn from Mash Bill #2, and issued this commemorative presentation marking his life from 1919 to 2013.
