Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti 2004 is the domaine's flagship grand cru, a Pinot Noir from the 1.81-hectare monopole in Vosne-Romanée. This lot is offered as a six-bottle original wooden case; the 2004 vintage produced classically proportioned, ageworthy reds across the Côte de Nuits.

About This Wine

The Romanée-Conti vineyard has been the domaine's monopole since 1869. The 2004 Burgundy vintage combined a cool, even growing season with sunny late-season weather, yielding structured, fresh reds with the kind of fine-grained tannin that ages slowly and well. As with all DRC reds, the fruit was hand-picked, sorted and largely kept as whole clusters before fermentation, then aged in new French oak barriques and bottled without filtration. Bottles are shipped in the original branded case.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Restrained Pinot with red cherry, rose, mineral lift and a faint whole-cluster note.
  • Palate: Cool, precise and tightly coiled, with fine-grained tannin and pure, driving acidity.
  • Finish: Very long, perfumed and lifted, with the focus of the vintage.

Serving & Food

Stand the bottle upright for 30 minutes, decant gently and serve in large Burgundy glasses at 16 to 17 degrees. Pair with a slow-cooked duck breast, a wild mushroom risotto or a round of Chaource.

How to Enjoy

Take time over a long, unhurried meal; the wine rewards glass time.

About the Domaine

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti was put together around Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet's 1869 purchase of Romanée-Conti and has been held jointly by the de Villaine and Leroy families since 1942. The domaine's 30 hectares of vines lie almost entirely in grand cru across the Côte de Nuits, with parcels including the Romanée-Conti monopole, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Biodynamic farming covers the entire estate, and each grand cru is vinified and aged separately in the cellars at Vosne.
