Don Julio 1942 Tequila Luminous Edition 750mL

Don Julio 1942 is the house's añejo tequila, aged a minimum of two and a half years and named for the year Don Julio González began distilling. This is the Luminous Edition, the same añejo in a photo-luminescent bottle that glows once it has been exposed to light.

Don Julio is a Mexican tequila house founded by Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada, who began distilling in 1942 at the age of seventeen at Atotonilco El Alto in the Jalisco highlands. The agave is grown on estate land and harvested by hand after roughly seven years, slow-baked in brick ovens, then fermented and distilled at the company's La Primavera distillery. Diageo took full ownership in November 2014. The 1942 expression was created to mark the founder's sixtieth birthday and is matured a minimum of two and a half years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Warm oak, vanilla and toasted almond over cooked agave.
• Palate: Rich and rounded — caramel, vanilla and tropical fruit with the sweet-earthy agave still carrying through the wood.
• Finish: Long, soft and gently spiced. An añejo built for sipping rather than mixing.
