About This Bourbon
The Rare Release is built on straight Kentucky bourbon aged 15 years, from a distillery the brand does not name. The very first Doc Swinson's bottling was a blend of 15-year-old Kentucky bourbons with no cask finish, and this series keeps that approach: several mature barrels married together and bottled without cutting to a standard strength. Batch 9 was bottled at 113.8 proof, or 56.9% ABV.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dark cherry, caramel and well-seasoned oak with a sprinkle of baking spice.
- Palate: Dense and warming, with toffee, candied pecan, leather and plenty of barrel spice.
- Finish: Long and dry, the oak and spice lingering well after the sweetness fades.

About the Distillery
Doc Swinson's grew out of Distillers Way, a custom spirits house in Ferndale that develops products for other brands. The team came across a small parcel of old whiskey barrels, began tinkering with blends after long shifts on the bottling line, and the side project turned into a label of its own. Master blender Jesse Parker, who started out distilling gin and brandy in the area, leads the work.
The company does not distil. It sources straight bourbon and rye from established producers, then blends and often finishes the whiskey at its Ferndale barrel house. The name is a nod to David Swinson "Doc" Maynard, one of Seattle's founders, and the labels are drawn to look like an old pharmacy prescription.
