Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky traces its whiskey-making lineage to 1773 and is the producer of the Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. range, named for Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. — the bourbon figure who campaigned for the federal Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 and who rebuilt the distillery complex on the Kentucky River. Seasoned Wood is an E.H. Taylor, Jr. expression that isolates one variable in bourbon ageing — barrel preparation — by maturing bourbon in new oak whose staves have been bathed and naturally seasoned outdoors before charring.
