Château Climens is a Premier Cru Classé Sauternes producer located in Barsac, in the southern part of Bordeaux's Graves district, classified in the 1855 Bordeaux classification alongside the other Sauternes and Barsac First Growths. The estate has been run by Bérénice Lurton since 1992, when she took over from her father Lucien Lurton. Climens farms biodynamically and uses only natural yeast, with plantings of 100% Sémillon across approximately 29 hectares of vineyard on the appellation's chalky soils. The estate's signature style is built around Sémillon's late-harvest botrytis concentration, balanced by the chalk-driven freshness typical of Barsac. Climens also produces a second wine, Cypres de Climens, and a dry Sémillon, Asphodele du Climens.

Tasting Profile

Sauternes from Château Climens characteristically show honeyed apricot and citrus marmalade, with the lifted acidity and mineral precision that distinguishes Barsac from the richer Barsac/Sauternes neighbours. The 2005 vintage in Bordeaux produced classically proportioned sweet wines with both concentration and freshness, drinking well now while retaining significant further ageing potential.
