About This Whisky
La Maison du Whisky is the Paris whisky house founded in 1956. Its Artist series is a long-running range of single-cask bottlings, and the tenth collection, released in 2020, took an international theme with casks from distilleries such as Amrut, Kavalan and Chichibu. This Chichibu, cask #423, spent its ten years in an ex-bourbon barrel and was bottled in a run of 153 bottles.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Vanilla, green apple, citrus peel and honey, with sandalwood and fresh malt.
- Palate: Lively and spicy at full strength, with baked apple, pepper and sweet oak.
- Finish: Long and warming, with spice, fruit and lingering wood.

About the Distillery
Chichibu is the work of Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder of the Hanyu distillery. When the family business was sold and Hanyu closed after Japan's first whisky boom ended, Ichiro rescued its remaining casks.
He bottled them from the early 2000s as the Ichiro's Malt Card Series, a set of single casks with playing-card labels that are now highly prized. The success of those bottlings gave him the means and the confidence to build his own distillery.
