Carruades de Lafite 2006 750mL is the second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild, drawn from younger vines and the Carruades plateau adjoining the Lafite hill in Pauillac. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blend with Merlot, finished in French oak according to the estate's long-standing chai practice.

Carruades de Lafite has been the second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild since 1845, taking its name from the Carruades vineyard plots adjoining the main Lafite hill in Pauillac. Lafite's Pauillac vineyards sit on deep gravel soils over a clay-limestone subsoil on the western edge of the appellation; the Carruades plateau is a cooler, gravelly site traditionally used for the second wine. Vinification is in concrete and stainless-steel vats, with ageing in new French oak from the estate's own cooperage in Pauillac. The 2006 vintage on the Left Bank was cool and late-ripening, producing Lafite-style wines of cedary fruit and classic Pauillac structure.
