Stagg Jr. was introduced by Buffalo Trace Distillery in 2013 as a more accessible offshoot of its George T. Stagg bourbon, launched after years of collector pressure for a barrel-proof Kentucky straight bourbon at a lower price point. Like the original Stagg, Stagg Jr. is uncut, unfiltered and bottled at the proof of the barrel, drawn from a selection of mature Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels with a minimum age requirement around 8 to 9 years, blended batch-by-batch to deliver a fuller, cask-strength profile. Batches are released in spring ("A") and fall ("B") numbering where applicable. Stagg Jr. Batch 15 was issued in 2020 and is widely reported at 131.1 proof (65.55% ABV); the bourbon is presented as a series for collectors and enthusiasts who want barrel-proof character without the rarer, older flagship allocations.
