Booker's is named for Booker Noe — Frederick Booker Noe II, grandson of Jim Beam — who was master distiller at the James B. Beam Distilling Co. for more than 40 years. In 1988 he introduced his namesake bourbon, the company's first uncut, straight-from-the-barrel release, originally a private Christmas gift to friends before it went to market. Every Booker's release is bottled unfiltered and undiluted, so proof and age vary batch to batch and are printed on the label — which is why collectors track individual batch codes like 2015-02E rather than a single house strength.
