The 2010 BOND assortment case holds one bottle from each of the five single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons made by the Harlan family's BOND project. 2010 was a cool Napa year, and after fifteen years these wines are well into their drinking lives.
About This Wine
All five are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon made the same way, so the differences come from the sites. Melbury is from Pritchard Hill near Lake Hennessey; Vecina neighbours Harlan Estate in Oakville; St. Eden is on low foothills just north of the Oakville Crossroad; Pluribus is at around 1,000 feet on Spring Mountain; Quella is on old riverbed cobbles near St. Helena. 2010 stayed cool until late heat spikes finished the ripening. Robert Parker gave Vecina 99, Melbury 98+ and Pluribus 97, and Vinous rated Quella 96.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Across the set: blackcurrant and black cherry; blueberry, violet and incense from Pluribus; charcoal and scorched earth from Vecina; kirsch and wild flowers from Quella.
- Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated, from the dense, backward Vecina to the more open, exotic Melbury.
- Finish: Long in all five, with dark fruit, cocoa and mineral grip.
Serving & Food
Plan a horizontal tasting: decant all five for one to two hours and serve at 16 to 18°C in large Bordeaux glasses. Quella and Melbury are the more open now; Vecina and Pluribus can go longer. Serve with prime rib, lamb rack or aged Parmigiano.

About the Winery
Bill Harlan founded BOND in 1996, naming it after his mother's maiden name and the bond between the family and its growers. Where Harlan Estate follows a Bordeaux model, BOND borrows from Burgundy, bottling small, separate vineyards to show terroir. Of around 100 sites tried over the years, five made the cut.
In 2010 the wines were made by Bob Levy with Michel Rolland consulting. Cory Empting, part of the team since 2000, has led winemaking since 2012, and Will Harlan has run the winery since 2020.
