Blanton's launched in 1984 as the first modern bourbon marketed as a single-barrel whiskey, under Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Barrels mature in Warehouse H, the distillery's only metal-clad warehouse, which speeds aging relative to the brick rickhouses on site. Black Label is bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) specifically for the Japanese market, distinct from the standard US 93-proof release and other international proof variants.
