Blanton's, launched in 1984 under Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee, was the first modern bourbon marketed as a single-barrel whiskey and is distilled at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Each barrel is drawn from Warehouse H, the distillery's only metal-clad rickhouse, which heats and cools faster than the brick warehouses and speeds maturation. Black Label is one of several export-only Blanton's proof variants, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) specifically for the Japanese market, alongside the standard US 93-proof release and other international expressions.
