The DCS Compendium is The Balvenie's tribute series named for David C. Stewart, who joined William Grant & Sons in 1962 and became one of Scotch whisky's longest-serving Malt Masters, credited with pioneering the wood-finishing technique used across the Balvenie range. Chapter Five draws on a single vintage from 2001, matured in a European oak fino sherry butt at the Dufftown distillery, one of the few Scottish distilleries that still floor-malts its own barley and runs its own on-site cooperage.
