Au Sommet is crafted by Heidi Barrett with John Schwartz and Jim Barbour from vineyards on top of Atlas Peak in Napa Valley. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is described in merchant and technical references as a classic mountain wine shaped by elevation, concentration and volcanic-soil minerality.
From the Producer
Au Sommet was founded by John Schwartz on a small parcel near the top of Atlas Peak, with Heidi Barrett as winemaker - the same hand behind the first Screaming Eagle vintages and Dalla Valle Maya. Atlas Peak sits above the fog line on volcanic soil, so the vines get cooler nights, smaller berries and thicker skins than anything on the valley floor. That is where the graphite and mountain tannin come from.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dark fruit, gravel, graphite, savoury herbs, chocolate and menthol.
- Palate: Powerful Cabernet fruit with mountain structure, concentration and earthy mineral detail from Atlas Peak fruit.
- Finish: Long, firm and cellar-worthy, with mountain tannin and savoury persistence.
Best For
Napa Cabernet collectors, steakhouse service and buyers who want a pronounced Atlas Peak profile rather than a softer valley-floor style.
