From the Producer

Almaviva is a joint venture between Chile's Viña Concha y Toro and France's Baron Philippe Rothschild, the same Rothschild family behind Château Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac. The partnership was created in 1997 with the explicit goal of producing a Chilean "first growth" from the Puente Alto sub-region of the Maipo Valley, using Bordeaux varieties, French oak and a Chilean terroir. The flagship wine carries an Incan-inspired name and a label designed by a Chilean artist; Almaviva's wines are widely cited as the benchmark for premium Maipo Cabernet-led blends.

The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Carmenère, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, drawn from the Almaviva estate in Alto Jahuel within Puente Alto. Each vintage is bottled at the Almaviva winery in the Maipo Valley and aged in French oak before release.

Tasting Profile

Almaviva's house style combines dark-fruit depth with savoury Maipo Cabernet structure: cassis, blackberry, graphite, fine-grained tannin, sweet French oak and a sustained finish. The Cabernet-led blend with Carmenère and Cabernet Franc gives the wine its Chilean signature alongside the Bordeaux framework inherited from the Rothschild winemaking side.
