Altesino is a Montalcino estate founded by the Falvosi family in the 1970s and now part of the wider Tuscan wine group that includes Caparzo. Altesino was an early adopter of the so-called "Brunello method" of longer oak ageing and was one of the first houses to bottle a single-vineyard Brunello from the Montosoli hill, a cooler, higher-elevation site north of the town of Montalcino, where Sangiovese (locally called Brunello) tends to ripen more slowly and produces a more structured, mineral style.

The Montosoli vineyard bottling has become one of the recognised reference points for single-vineyard Brunello. Altesino's house style leans on large Slavonian oak botti alongside French barriques, which shapes the savoury, tertiary character of mature vintages such as the 1990.
