About This Whiskey
An eight-year-old rye whiskey in Very Olde St. Nick's Ancient Cask livery, sealed in black wax and bottled at 86.8 proof. It is a gentler rye than the brand's barrel-strength seasonal releases.
The Ancient Cask 8 Year Rye was not distilled in Kentucky.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Caramel, vanilla, rye spice, orange peel and light oak.
- Palate: Medium-bodied, with sweet grain, toffee, cinnamon and gentle pepper.
- Finish: Smooth and warming, with lingering rye sweetness and a dry spice edge.
Serving & Food
Pour it neat at room temperature, or make a Manhattan with sweet vermouth and a dash of Angostura. At this strength it also mixes well into an Old Fashioned.
Good to Know
What food suits it? Pastrami on rye, pickled vegetables or salted caramel.
Is it good in cocktails? Yes. It lets the rye flavour come through.
