The Cask of Yamazaki Sherry Butt #OM70174 1990 is a scarce single-cask bottling from Suntory’s Yamazaki Distillery. Auction references describe Spanish oak sherry butt maturation, 59% ABV and October 2007 bottling

From the Producer

Yamazaki is Japan's first malt distillery, built in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii in the Vale of Yamazaki outside Kyoto, where three rivers meet and the humidity sits high year-round. The Cask of Yamazaki was Suntory's single-cask programme: individual casks selected and bottled undiluted rather than blended into the core range. A Spanish oak sherry butt filled in 1990 is a full seventeen years of that cellar's climate working on one cask.

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Dried fig, prune, dark chocolate, coffee bean, old oak and incense.
  • Palate: Deep sherry richness with black fruit, cocoa, spice, polished wood and full cask-strength texture.
  • Finish: Long, dark and aromatic, with raisin, sandalwood and lingering oak spice.

Best For

Best for advanced Yamazaki collectors, auction-grade Japanese whisky cellars and rare-bottle gifting
