Weller Centennial was a 10-year-old, 100-proof wheated bourbon from the W.L. Weller line. It went out of production in 2009, so any bottle today is an older release.
About This Bourbon
Centennial appeared in the Bourbon Heritage Collection sold by National Distillers, a set of older bourbons that also included Old Fitzgerald and I.W. Harper bottlings. Early bottles give Louisville as the place of bottling. After Sazerac bought the Weller brand in 1999, production moved to Buffalo Trace and later labels read Frankfort. Throughout, the recipe used wheat in place of rye as the flavouring grain, and the whiskey was bottled at 10 years old and 100 proof.

An older bottle may have been open a while, so pour a small measure first and let it settle. Neat in a nosing glass at room temperature is the way to judge it. Pair with vanilla custard, roast chestnuts or a mild aged cheddar.

About the Distillery
The Weller brand grew up at Stitzel-Weller. After William Larue Weller died in 1899, Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle and Alex Farnsley bought his company in 1908, and they later joined with Arthur Stitzel's distillery. The new Stitzel-Weller Distillery opened in Louisville on Derby Day in 1935 and became known for bourbon made with wheat in place of rye.
The brand changed hands several times after 1972. Sazerac bought W.L. Weller in 1999, and it has been made at Buffalo Trace in Frankfort ever since.
