About This Bourbon

Like all Family Estate bottlings, this is one barrel, bottled as it came out: no blending, no chill filtration and no water added. At 124.2 proof it is 62.1% ABV, high even for a nine-year Willett barrel. In the warmer upper floors of a Kentucky rickhouse, water tends to evaporate faster than alcohol, so strength climbs with age. Expect a dense texture and a lot of oak spice. The barrel number and proof on the label identify this exact cask.

Tasting Profile

• Nose: Vanilla pod, dark caramel, clove and toasted oak.
• Palate: Powerful and thick, with dense sweetness, charred spice and dried cherry.
• Finish: Assertive and lasting, with pepper, oak tannin and lingering caramel.

Serving & Food

This one needs water. Pour neat into a tasting glass, sip, then add water a little at a time until the heat settles and the fruit comes through. Serve with barbecue ribs, a strong cheddar or dark chocolate with sea salt.

About the Distillery

Willett is still a family business. Britt Kulsveen became president and chief whiskey officer in 2018, taking over from her mother Martha, and her brother Drew runs distilling. Their father Even, who rebuilt the company, stayed on as executive director until his death in 2025.

The family also brought hospitality to the site in Bardstown, with tours, a tasting room run by Janelle Kulsveen and a bar and restaurant. In 2025 Willett also announced a partnership with Binder's Stash aimed at releasing more aged American whiskey.
