Very Olde St. Nick Harvest Rye Lot 22 is a barrel-strength rye whiskey bottled at 118.1 proof and released in 2020. Harvest is one of the seasonal names in the label's line-up, and every lot is bottled from a small number of barrels.
About This Whiskey
Harvest Rye has been sourced from Tennessee-distilled rye and aged partly in Bardstown. One early lot was chosen from more than 100 barrels, with the final two held back through an extra winter and summer before bottling. Lots run at about 117.6 to 119.6 proof, and Lot 22 came in at 118.1 proof (59.05% ABV), bottled without water.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Candied cherry, caramel, rye spice, dried mint and toasted oak.
- Palate: Big and hot, with sweet candy notes, pepper, dried herbs and dark brown sugar.
- Finish: Drying and persistent, with spice and warm oak.
Serving & Food
At nearly 60% ABV, start with a small pour and add cool water slowly until the sweetness shows. It also makes a strong Sazerac or Vieux Carré. Good with spiced lamb skewers, pastrami or a wedge of aged Manchego.

About the Distillery
The current Very Olde St. Nick range is built around a few names that keep returning in new lots: Immaculata bourbon, Faith + Conviction rye, Straight Outta Bardstown, Summer Rye, Harvest Rye and a Winter Maple whiskey. Founder Marci Palatella tastes and picks the barrels herself. For one rye, the brand said, she spent five days tasting from its stock of barrels before settling on the blend.
The labels still show a bearded old man smoking a pipe, and the wax seals change colour from one series to the next. Harvest Rye has been sealed in black.
