About This Whiskey
Like the other Ancient Cask 8 Year Rye lots, this one is traced by collectors to Alberta Distillers in Canada. Canadian rye can be made from a very high share of rye grain, which gives it a spicy, fruity character. Lot 17 is labelled at 86.8 proof (43.4% ABV), a little above the 82.8 proof most records show for this series. It is sealed in black wax.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Rye spice, caramel, orange peel, vanilla and light oak.
- Palate: Lively and medium-bodied, with sweet grain, citrus, toffee and a soft herbal edge.
- Finish: Medium length, with rye spice, caramel and gentle oak.

About the Distillery
Very Olde St. Nick has been bottled in several places over the years. After Kentucky Bourbon Distillers began distilling again at the Willett site in 2012, it kept more of its good barrels for its own labels and sold fewer to outside brands. Very Olde St. Nick's bottling moved to California, where Frank-Lin Distillers filled some of the brand's stored whiskey.
That arrangement lasted until founder Marci Palatella had her own distillery in Bardstown. Since then, bottling has returned to Kentucky, under the same old-style labels.
