Father and Son is a 16 year old Kentucky straight bourbon from Gentleman's Cut, released to mark Stephen Curry's 16th NBA season, the same number of seasons his father Dell played. Stephen and Dell chose the barrels together, and only 1,000 bottles were filled at 100 proof.
About This Bourbon
The whiskey was distilled in August 2008, the summer before Curry's last college season at Davidson, from a mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley. That is less rye and much more malt than the flagship Gentleman's Cut. It spent all 16 years in new American oak and was bottled at 50% ABV. Vinous scored the release 95 points, praising its polish and depth.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Dried cherry and caramelised sugar, with candied orange peel, cedar and pipe tobacco.
- Palate: Layered and smooth. Fig, cinnamon and kirsch, with charred violet, leather and gentle spice.
- Finish: Long and earthy, with fine tannin, tobacco leaf and a light smoky edge.
Serving & Food
Use a small tulip glass at room temperature and give it time. At 100 proof, a splash of water lifts the cherry and orange peel. After dinner, pair it with aged Comté and dried figs, or dark chocolate.

About the Distillery
Gentleman's Cut launched in May 2023. It is owned by Game Changer LLC, a joint venture between Stephen Curry's company SC30 Inc., Napa winemaker John Schwartz of Amuse Bouche, and Boone County Distilling Co. in northern Kentucky. The older, limited Player releases are small bottlings selected by Curry himself.
Boone County Distilling traces its name to a distilling tradition in the county going back to 1833 and sits on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour. It distils in a 500-gallon copper pot still nicknamed The Bear, a slower method than the column stills used by most large Kentucky producers.
