Chichibu The Peated US Edition 2019 is a peated Japanese single malt from the Chichibu distillery in Saitama, released for the US market. It is bottled at 750ml and is one of the distillery's annual city-edition releases.
From the Producer
Chichibu distillery sits in the mountain town of Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, and was founded by Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the master distiller of the now-closed Hanyu distillery. Distilling began in 2008 on a small scale. While most Chichibu releases are unpeated, the distillery has run a parallel peated programme using Scottish-style peated malt; The Peated is the peated counterpart to the annual unpeated US Edition, with the two bottles released together each year.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: Soft peat smoke, malt sweetness, citrus and light herbal tones
- Palate: Compact and lively, with sweet barley, pepper, smoke and fresh fruit underneath
