A. H. Hirsch Reserve is named after Adolph Hirsch, a Pennsylvania whiskey merchant who discovered stocks of well-aged bourbon in the Michter's / Pennco warehouses in Schaefferstown in the 1980s. The whiskey was distilled at the former Michter's / Pennco stillhouse in Pennsylvania and aged in western Pennsylvania warehouses. Adolph Hirsch partnered with American whiskey importer Charles Kuralt's "Country Vintner" to bottle it as the A. H. Hirsch Reserve. The Gold Foil presentation is the original, pre-1994 bottling and is regarded as a landmark of Pennsylvania bourbon history. The whiskey is built on a high-rye mashbill and aged to 16 years before bottling.
